Perchlorate is a persistent, toxic chemical; it exists in the forms NH4ClO4 , KClO4 , and NaClO4 . Perchlorate ‘s primary effect is to suppress the thyroid gland, which absorbs iodine, leading to decreased secretion of thyroid hormones, which affects physical development, particularly brain development. Excessive perchlorate consumption leads to thyroid hormone deficiency, which, in turn, inhibits metabolism and growth, especially in children.Due to perchlorate’s non-volatility and high solubility in water, it cannot be removed by conventional methods such as filtration and precipitation; the best removal method is ion exchange.
ZG D891 is a type of anion exchange resin containing a quaternary ammonium group [-N(CH3 ) 3OH ] in a styrene-diethylenebenzene copolymer with a macroporous structure. It is specifically used for the removal of perchlorate acid and the purification of water supply systems and drinking water; its selectivity for perchlorate acid varies.
