Deze hars is smaragdgroen in gereduceerde vorm (H) en wordt donkerblauw bij ontleding (Na). De kleurverandering is zeer uitgesproken. ZG BSL indicatorhars wordt voornamelijk gebruikt om de kationgeleidbaarheid van stoom en condensaatwater in gemengde sedimentfilters bij de uitlaat te meten. De indicatorhars wordt in een transparant uitwisselingsvat met een diameter van minder dan 50 mm geladen, waar sporenelementen in het water kunnen uitwisselen met zuur, wat de gevoeligheid van de kationbewaking aanzienlijk verhoogt. Tegelijkertijd verandert de kleur van de hars naar donkerblauw bij ontleding, wat de bedrijfstoestand van het uitwisselingsvat aangeeft.
