Las zonas con alta concentraci\u00f3n de minerales fluorados se denominan zonas de alta fluoraci\u00f3n. Cuando el agua atraviesa estratos con alta concentraci\u00f3n de fl\u00faor, este se disuelve y se encuentra en el agua en forma de F\u207b, HF\u207b y HF\u2082\u207b. La contaminaci\u00f3n industrial es otra fuente de fl\u00faor en la naturaleza; por ejemplo, las industrias de fertilizantes de aluminio y fosfato, as\u00ed como la quema de carb\u00f3n, que libera fluoruro al ambiente, aumentan su concentraci\u00f3n en el agua y el aire. Se ha informado que la concentraci\u00f3n de fl\u00faor en el agua natural alcanza varios mg\/l, e incluso decenas de mg\/l, en algunas zonas del pa\u00eds. Las investigaciones toxicol\u00f3gicas sobre el fl\u00faor indican que causa fluorosis dental cuando la concentraci\u00f3n de F\u207b alcanza los 115 mg\/l, fluorosis \u00f3sea y da\u00f1os en el tejido nervioso y el m\u00fasculo esquel\u00e9tico cuando la concentraci\u00f3n de F\u207b llega a los 415 mg\/l, adem\u00e1s de disminuir la actividad del sistema enzim\u00e1tico e inhibir la formaci\u00f3n \u00f3sea. Adem\u00e1s, otras investigaciones indican que la ingesta excesiva de fl\u00faor podr\u00eda provocar c\u00e1nceres como el oral y el de mama, por lo que la contaminaci\u00f3n del agua con fl\u00faor y su eliminaci\u00f3n representan un gran problema. Hasta ahora, los m\u00e9todos para eliminar el fl\u00faor son la coagulaci\u00f3n, la adsorci\u00f3n y la tecnolog\u00eda de membranas, pero todos comparten las desventajas de una mala calidad del agua tras el tratamiento, una baja capacidad de eliminaci\u00f3n de fl\u00faor y un alto costo. Sin embargo, aprovechando la propiedad qu\u00edmica de coordinaci\u00f3n del AL\u2083\u207a y el F\u207b, y utilizando una resina quelante aminocarbox\u00edlica (grupo funcional -CH\u2082\u2014N(CH\u2082COOH)\u2082) que une AL\u2083\u207a a concentraciones de fl\u00faor de 2 a 60 ml\/L en el agua, se logra una eliminaci\u00f3n de fl\u00faor mediante un proceso s\u00f3lido-l\u00edquido con buenos resultados. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><br \/>\n<span dir=\"auto\" style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span dir=\"auto\" style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span dir=\"auto\" style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span dir=\"auto\" style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">El AL3+ posee un campo ligando octa\u00e9drico y puede formar complejos insaturados tras su uni\u00f3n a la resina. El punto de coordinaci\u00f3n izquierdo se combina con agua, y al entrar en contacto con agua rica en fl\u00faor, puede desplazarla debido a la mayor afinidad de coordinaci\u00f3n entre F- y AL3+. Esto provoca una adsorci\u00f3n por intercambio de ligandos que fija el F-, logrando finalmente la separaci\u00f3n s\u00f3lido-l\u00edquido en agua para eliminar el fl\u00faor.
